Investment Centre Helps Local Businesses To Grow
17/06/2010 14:28
West Lancashire Investment Centre has established itself as a hub for businesses across the area and beyond.

In the five years it has been operating, the Centre has been instrumental in the development and expansion of a plethora of start-up businesses.

Creative design firm Loaf Creative began as two individuals working from a bedroom. Having spent three years at the Investment Centre, the firm has grown to such an extent that it has had to move into larger premises.

Alan Houghton, Creative Director of Loaf Creative, said: "The investment centre was an important stepping stone for us. They provided consultancy and funding for our first years rent. It was a great base to find clients, and a modern space with helpful staff".

The Centre is proud to be engaged in the social development of the area.

John Bird, founder and editor-in-chief of the Big Issue, lectured in January at an event designed to help inspire social entrepreneurs.

Councillor Adrian Owens, said: "This was a fantastic event and even John Bird described it as being both ‘inspirational and phenomenal’. It was so good to hear how these social enterprises have made such a radical difference to the people they help and I’m sure their stories will help other similar ventures flourish.”

The Centre supports enterprises through its 'Social Enterprise Hub' (SEH). One of these is West Lancashire Community Recycling (WLCR), which earned the Best Community Iinitiative award in the National Recycling and Waste Management Awards.

Director Maureen Fazal said: "Having the support from West Lancashire Borough Council through the development of the Hub, plays a significant role in the development of our sector."
